Use the resize option to see the impact on your resources of extending or shortening the length of a project.

Note: This article refers to projects. Depending on your configuration, you may see alternate terminology used in your environment.

In project view or priority view, select the project bar then select extend or shorten project.

Alternatively, select the what if control at the top of the planner.

Select the resize option.

Set the number of weeks to extend or shorten the project by. You can also set an explicit date to extend or shorten to.

Then select an option to decide if the work is adjusted:

  • Don’t adjust allocated days (total work remains the same). The total amount of work will remain the same.
  • Adjust allocated days (total work increases or decreases). The total amount of work will increase if you extend or decrease if you shorten.

Understanding how extend and shorten works

If work row consists of a single segment:

  • When you extend additional weeks are added to the end of the work.
  • When you shorten weeks are removed from the end of the work.

If work row consists of multiple segments:

  • When you extend additional weeks are added to the end of the latest segment.
  • When you shorten:
    • Weeks are removed from the end of the latest segment until the segment is 1 week in length.
    • Then the segment will move earlier in time until it hits another segment.
    • Then the segments will merge and use the process for single segment work.
